Reset Cisco Linksys E1200 Router

Step 1:
Reset the router.

To reset the router located the "Reset" button on the back of the router. Use a paper clip or ink pen to hold down the reset button for 10 seconds.
You will see the power light start to blink (approximately 30 seconds) then the wireless light will turn on indicated that it was successfully reset.

** Note: If you have an older router, you may have to hold down the reset button for 30 seconds

Step 2: Login to router's web configurations.
Open a web browser (
Chrome) in the address bar type the router's IP address  "  press the Enter key. 
You will be prompted for a username and password.
Default Usernames    admin
Default Passwords    admin
Click the Wireless tab and make sure you then have the Basic Wireless Settings sub-tab selected.
Do this

  • Configuration ViewManual
  • Network Mode: Mixed
  • Network Name (SSID): change the SSID (Ex.  L-R-Network) This is the name of your wireless network you see when connecting wireless devices (laptop)
  • Channel Width:  20MHz or Auto
  • SSID Broadcast:  Enabled will allow you to see your wireless network name when connecting devices. 

Click Save Settings when you are finished making changes.

Step 3: Change the Security Mode & wireless password. (must be 8 digits)
To change the wireless password go to Wireless security
Security Mode WPA2/ WPA Mixed Mode
  This is the password you are to use to access your wireless network.

Click Save Settings

*** Note:  When You login with your wireless devices (laptop) use the new password   ** 

Step 4: Change router password Click  "Administration" Be sure to write the new password down
 You will then be prompted to login to your router again using new password.
